The Gateway Arch is also known as the Gateway to the West. The arch is an integral part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and an iconic image of St. Louis, Missouri. This U.S. National Historic Landmark opened to the public on 10th July 1967.
The arch is 192 meter (630 feet) wide at its base and is 192 meter (630 feet) tall. At the top of the Gateway Arch, there is an arched observation area that offers views across the Mississippi River and the City of Saint Louis and St. Louis County to the west beyond the city.
There is an egg shaped tram to get visitors to the observation area at the top of the arch. It takes about 4 minutes to get to the top.
