The Glass Beach in California is named as such due to its historical location as a garbage dumping ground in the early 20th century. There are two such beaches, one in Benicia and the other at Fort Bragg, both in the state of California.
Since around 1967, authorities have been taking corrective measures to heal the environment for all the harm that has been done. The glass shards from bottle trash that remained on the beach, waves from the sea over the years have smoothened out the pieces of glass and make them look like glass pebbles.
Though not officially permitted, the beach has become a tourist attraction where individuals would scour the beach for interesting things. For those heading to the glass beach to check it out, footwear is recommended.
