The Grand Canyon is one of the nature's greatest wonder. Located in the state of Arizona, United States, it is 446 km (277 miles) long, width ranges from 6.4 to 29 km (4 to 18 miles) and a depth of up to 1.83 km in certain areas. For at least 17 million years, the Colorado River flows through exposing layers of rock, forming the canyon walls.
As one of the world’s premier natural attractions, Grand Canyon National Park attracts about five million visitors per year. Visitors to the Grand Canyon are able to casually sightsee from the South Rim that is 2,100 meter (7000 feet) above sea level, whitewater rafting, hiking, running and helicopter tours. Camping on the North and South Rims is generally restricted to established campgrounds, all overnight camping below the rim requires a backcountry permit from the Backcountry Country Office (BCO).
