The Door to Hell is a collapsed underground cavern located in the area of Derweze, 260 km north of Ashgabat City, Turkmenistan. Being an area rich in natural gas, geologists accidentally discovered this cavern in 1971 when the ground beneath their drilling rig collapsed.
