Hwacheon county in Gangwon-do province, South Korea is where an annual ice fishing festival takes place. Despite the province being South Korea's coldest region, about a million people come to try catch as many Sancheoneo (Hangul: 산천어, wild trout) as possible from the frozen river.
At the festival, an admission fee is payable for ice fishing (from the hole cut in the ice), lure fishing and even with bare hands in the main area. But despite this, the ice fishing festival is entertaining and popular with parents and children.
