The annual Boryeong Mud Festival first started in 1998 has since attracted 1.5 million visitors both locals and foreign tourist to the festival for some muddy fun. The mud festival takes place in on Daecheon beach in Boryeong City, Chungcheongnam-do Province, South Korea. Held around mid-July every year, visitors can enjoy many events like mud bath, mud slices and mud wrestling.
In summer when this mud festival is held, mud is dug up near Boryeong, trucked to the Daecheon beach area, and dumped at a 'Mud Experience Land'. The mud is considered rich in minerals and used to manufacture cosmetics.
