
Chand Baori as the most popular step well that is located in the small town village of Abhaneri in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is India's deepest and largest step well that was built in the 9th century. There are 3,500 narrow steps, 13 stories and it is 30.4 meter (100 feet) deep.
Located next to Chand Baori is a temple that is dedicated to Harshat Mata, the goddess of joy and happiness. In the belief that the goddess will impart her joy and happiness, villagers had the ritual of washing their hands and feet at the Chand Baori before visiting the temple.
