
The Brussels Flower Carpet was first created in 1971 by the landscape architect E. Stautemans in the Grand Place, Belgium. Held every two years during the month of August, a million colourful begonias are set up in patterns for the flower carpet that covers 24 by 77 meter (79 by 250 feet), for area total of 1,800 meter² (19,000 feet²).
